ICT in the Baltic region

Tech has become one of the highest-paying fields in the European Union.

We decided to go for a dive into the expansion of the field in the baltic countries for the last 4. years.

We know that many people are interested in visual aids, so here is a chart showing the growth of the ICT field in Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia.

The biggest growth year Latvia has had in the field is going from 2018 to 2019. The number of ICT specialists increased from approximately 22300 to 27300. During this year, the number of specialists in the ICT field grew by about 5000.

In 2021 the population of Latvia was approximately 1.87 million, and the number of ICT workers was 32700, meaning that almost 2% of the Latvian Populus was working in the ICT sector.

The highest growth year for Lithuania is 2020 to 2021. During the year, the number of professionals grew from approximately 44500 to 52200, which is a 7700 increase. In 2021 the Lithuanian population was reported to be 2.69 million, And the ICT field was 52200 working the field. Averaging 19 out of every 1000 people would be working in the field.

In Estonia, the growth has not spiked as much as in other Baltic countries. Starting at 35600 in 2018, and going up to 38200 in 2019, being a 2600-person increase. Looking at the statistics from 2021, Estonia had 1.32 million people and 40100 of them were part of the ICT field, meaning they had the largest % of the population in ICT with 3%.
